Jacob B.

Private tutor in Colorado Springs, CO

Education

MD candidate: Stanford School of Medicine; MA: Duke University (summa cum laude); BA: Baylor University (summa cum laude)

Experience

I currently have over 7 years of tutoring experience; the bulk of my tutoring work has focused on the SAT, the MCAT, organic chemistry, physics, and calculus; however, my undergraduate degree and masters degree were both in the humanities, so I enjoy working with students on literature and philosophy as well. Tutoring, for me, has become both a way for me to support myself financially and a way for me to share the education that I have received with others. I enjoy the opportunity to walk alongside my students as they attempt to absorb difficult material and apply it in novel situations (exams), and I have found that my flexible method tends to set students up for success beyond their work with me. In general, I am more focused on supplying my students with a method than with mere material. It is important to me that the lessons that I convey are useful to my students beyond any one exam or course. At the same time, I am very keen on helping my students achieve the grade or score that they desire when they contact me, and I am willing to spend as much time as is necessary to achieve these goals. MCAT: 37 (~520 on new MCAT) GRE: VR167, QR164, AW5.5 SAT: 2270 (National Merit Finalist)
