Experience

I've taught College Composition and Rhetoric for two years at the University of Wyoming, instructing students to craft unique arguments, utilize evidence, establish credibility, and engage in sophisticated analysis. My classes also focused on reading comprehension-- learning how to identify the purpose and intended audience of a text, how to locate rhetorical and persuasive strategies employed by the author, and how to develop a cogent argument as to the effectiveness of a text. I'm experienced in developing targeted lesson plans and hosting frequent one-on-one meetings discussing planning, pre-writing, drafts, and revision. I was nominated for an award for Excellence in Graduate Student Teaching as well as Promoting Intellectual Engagement among first year students. Before attending graduate school I taught English language learners in Equatorial Guinea, designing and executing lessons focused on improving students' writing, reading, speaking, and comprehension of English. At the end of one year I had successfully piloted many students of all levels to greater confidence and English abilities. The head of my language school awarded me English Teacher of the Year. I'm passionate about creating an environment where clients feel able to recognize both their potential as well as habits to leave behind so that our work will be meaningful beyond any particular assignment or class. I've received positive feedback from many former students about my approachability and ability to break down difficult concepts, themes, and ideas until they are thoroughly understood. In my writing life I love to read and write poetry, fiction, and essays. I also enjoy hiking with my dog, Runner, skiing in the mountains, and riding my bike around Colorado Springs. If I'm not outside you can find me cooking, baking, rewatching Mad Men, or spending 45 minutes picking out a movie on Netflix.
